Limitations of sum-of-sinusoids fading channel simulators

چکیده
Rayleigh signal fading due to multipath propagation in wireless channels is widely modeled using sum-of-sinusoids simulators. In particular, Jakes’ simulator and derivatives of Jakes’ simulator have gained widespread acceptance. Despite this, few in-depth studies of the simulators’ statistical behaviors have been reported in the literature. Here, the extent to which Jakes’ simulator adequately models the multipath Rayleigh fading propagation environment is examined. The results show that Jakes’ simulator does not reproduce some important properties of the physical fading channel. Some possible improvements to Jakes’ simulator are examined. The significances of the number and the symmetries of the Doppler frequency shifts on the validity of the simulator’s reproduction of the physical fading channel are elucidated.

Classes of Sum-of-Sinusoids Rayleigh Fading Channel Simulators and Their Stationary and Ergodic Properties
– Channel simulators based on Rice’s sum-of-sinusoids are playing an important role in mobile fading channel modelling. However, the parameters of the sum-of-sinusoids have to be determined sophisticated to fully exploit the great potential that this powerful procedure has to offer. This paper provides a fundamental work on the stationary and ergodic properties of sum-of-sinusoids-based Rayleig...

A Rayleigh fading channel simulator with excellent frequency hopping capabilities is described. The proposed channel simulator can easily be designed, and its statistical properties are in good conformity with the underlying physical (mathematical) radio channel model. Our simulator is based on a finite sum of weighted harmonic functions with determined frequencies and phases (Rice’s sum of sin...
متن کاملSum-of-Sinusoids Based Fading Channel Simulator for Non- Isotropic Scattering Environments
In this paper, we present a modified sum-of-sinusoids (SOS) based simulator for a two-dimensional (2-D) nonisotropic scattering channel. With a new parameter computation method called equal probability area (MEPA), the proposed model can be applied on arbitrary 2-D scattering environments and also can be generalized to multi-path channels with respect to the principle of set partitioning. Simul...
متن کاملOn the Performance of the Sum-of-Sinusoids Simulation Models for Rayleigh Fading Channels
This paper deals with the Sum-Of-Sinusoids (SOS)-based simulation method for generating timecorrelated Rayleigh fading processes. Five of the most accepted and recently proposed SOS-based Rayleigh fading models have been analyzed and compared. We have used the mean and the maximum power margin quality measures to assess the accuracy of the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the generated process...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Different Rayleigh Fading Channel Simulators
In this paper, we have presented a comparative study of four different Rayleigh fading channel simulation methods with respect to computational complexity and accuracy. Fidelity of the various simulators is examined in terms of confidence interval also. The sum-of-sinusoids (SOS)-based simulation method can accurately generate a very long sequence without any impact on computer memory usage. Th...
